Instructions

  1. Prepare the apple filling by combining diced Gala apples, apple butter, granulated sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, vanilla extract, water, and salt in a bowl. Set aside.
  2. For the dough, mix water and cornstarch until smooth; then heat until thickened. In a stand mixer bowl, combine bread flour, sugar, instant yeast, and salt. Add whole milk, heavy cream, egg, vanilla extract, Tangzhong mixture, and softened butter. Mix until combined and knead until smooth.
  3. Let the dough rise in a greased bowl for about 90 minutes or until doubled in size.
  4. Roll out the dough into a rectangle and evenly spread the apple filling over it. Sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon on top.
  5. Roll tightly from one long side and slice into 1-inch pieces.
  6. Arrange the slices in a greased baking dish; let them rise again for about 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for approximately 30 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. For the frosting, beat together cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, heavy cream, and apple butter until smooth. Drizzle over warm rolls before serving.
