Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package puff pastry (thawed)
  • 2 cups milk (or dairy-free alternative)
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface and cut it into squares.
  2. Place the pastry squares on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Prick the center with a fork to prevent rising too much.
  3. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown and flaky. Let cool.
  4. In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until warm.
  5. Whisk together egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch in a bowl until smooth.
  6. Gradually whisk warm milk into the egg mixture then return to the saucepan. Cook on low heat until thickened, stirring constantly.
  7. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract. Allow custard to cool completely.
  8. Once cooled, fill each pastry with custard and top with fresh berries.
  9. Dust with powdered sugar if desired before serving.
