  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 lean-to-fat ratio)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce (non-alcoholic)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 4 sub rolls
  • 8 slices crispy turkey bacon

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper until just mixed.
  3. Shape into meatballs about 1.5 inches in diameter.
  4. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Brown meatballs on all sides for about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Pour BBQ sauce over browned meatballs and simmer on low for about 10 minutes.
  6. Slice sub rolls lengthwise and toast on a baking sheet in the oven for around 5 minutes until golden.
  7. Assemble subs by placing meatballs inside toasted rolls, adding extra BBQ sauce, cheese, and turkey bacon.
  8. Optional: Return to the oven for an extra 2-3 minutes to melt cheese.
