  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for strawberries)
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp water (for strawberries)
  • 8 oz semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • Fresh strawberries (for garnish)
  • Chocolate shavings or curls (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare three 8-inch round cake pans by greasing and lining them with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, sift together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Mix in the milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Gradually add boiling water to the batter until smooth.
  5. Divide the batter among the prepared pans and bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Allow cakes to cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
