  • 1.5 lbs lean ground beef
  • 1 large yellow onion, finely diced
  • 45 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (15 oz) can diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 (6 oz) can tomato paste
  • 6 cups beef broth
  • 1012 lasagna noodles, broken into pieces
  • 1 cup whole milk or heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup fresh Italian parsley, chopped
  • 15 oz whole milk ricotta cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, finely chopped
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 tsp granulated sugar (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Brown the ground beef and drain excess fat.
  2. Add onion and cook until translucent; stir in garlic and herbs.
  3. Pour in broth and scrape up browned bits; add tomato paste and canned tomatoes.
  4. Simmer for 30–60 minutes to meld flavors.
  5. Add broken lasagna noodles and cook until al dente.
  6. Stir in cream and fresh parsley before serving with a dollop of ricotta cheese on top.
