French Onion Potatoes are the ultimate comfort food, blending the classic flavors of caramelized onions and gooey cheese with tender, layered potatoes.   • 2 lbs Yukon Gold or Russet potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter or olive oil
  • 1 packet onion soup mix or 1 cup condensed French onion soup
  • 1 cup beef or vegetable broth
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese (or mix of cheddar, Swiss, mozzarella)
  • ½ cup sour cream or heavy cream
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat butter or olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook for 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
  2. Thinly slice the potatoes and pat dry with paper towels.
  3. In a bowl, combine sour cream with onion soup mix, broth, and half of the shredded cheese. Add caramelized onions and stir well.
  4. Grease a baking dish. Layer half of the potato slices followed by half of the onion mixture. Repeat layers and top with remaining cheese.
  5. Cover with foil and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 30 minutes. Remove foil; bake uncovered for another 15–20 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Sprinkle fresh herbs on top before serving hot.
