Savory Mushroom & Gruyère Puff Pastry Braid is a delightful vegetarian treat that combines the earthy flavors of mushrooms with the rich creaminess of Gruyère cheese, all wrapped in a flaky puff pastry.

  • 1 package Puff Pastry
  • 2 tbsp Unsalted Butter
  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1 medium Yellow Onion
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 8 oz Cremini Mushrooms
  • 1 tbsp Fresh Thyme
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Black Pepper
  • 1/2 cup Vegetable Broth
  • 8 oz Cream Cheese
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan Cheese
  • 1 cup Gruyère Cheese
  • 1 tbsp Dijon Mustard
  • 1 large Egg
  • 2 tbsp Fresh Parsley

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a skillet, heat olive oil and butter over medium heat. Sauté onions and garlic until translucent.
  3. Add sliced mushrooms, thyme, salt, and pepper; cook until tender and moisture evaporates.
  4. In a bowl, mix cream cheese, Gruyère cheese, Parmesan cheese, and the sautéed mushroom mixture.
  5. Roll out puff pastry into a rectangle and cut slits along the sides.
  6. Spoon filling into the center and braid the pastry by folding the sides alternately.
  7. Brush with egg wash or cream/milk, then bake for 20-22 minutes until golden brown.
