  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup lukewarm water
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup lukewarm milk
  • 2 tablespoons sunflower or vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by sprinkling it over lukewarm water and letting it froth for about 5-10 minutes.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Mix in the frothy yeast mixture, milk, and oil until you form a cohesive dough.
  4. Knead on a floured surface until soft and elastic; let rise covered until doubled in size (about 45 minutes).
  5. Punch down the dough and let it rise again for another 45 minutes.
  6. Preheat the oven to 480°F (250°C) and prepare baking sheets.
  7. Divide the dough into six pieces, shape into balls, then flatten each into discs on the baking sheets.
  8. Score the tops with a knife; bake for 8-12 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Remove from oven and wrap in a towel to keep soft.
