  • 1 box Devil’s Food cake mix
  • 1 box instant chocolate pudding mix (3.9 oz)
  • 5 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup sour cream or buttermilk
  • 3/4 cup cooled brewed coffee
  • 2 cups Nestlé Toll House chocolate chips
  • 2 tbsp salted butter
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 3 tbsp milk
  • Optional: 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch cake pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the Devil’s Food cake mix and instant chocolate pudding mix.
  3. In another bowl, combine eggs, vanilla extract, vegetable oil, sour cream (or buttermilk), and cooled coffee until smooth.
  4. Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined; fold in the chocolate chips.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for approximately 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  6. Cool the cake before preparing the ganache by melting butter and whisking in cocoa powder, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth.
  7. Pour ganache over the cooled cake and serve.
