  • ¼ cup (50g) granulated sugar
  • 6 tbsp (84g) salted butter, melted (or add a pinch of salt with unsalted butter)

  • ¾ cup (150g) granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp (5ml) pure vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs (at room temperature)
  • ⅓ cup (80ml) sour cream
  • 1 ⅓ cups (190g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ⅓ cup (80ml) milk
  • 3 cups (420g) chopped fresh strawberries
  • 1 ½ tbsp (13g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp (12g) granulated sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. For the crumb topping, mix flour, sugars, and salt in a bowl. Stir in melted butter until combined, then form crumbs with your fingers.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together melted butter, sugar, vanilla extract, and eggs until fluffy. Mix in sour cream.
  4. Sift together flour and baking powder; fold into wet ingredients along with milk until just combined.
  5. Spread batter into the prepared pan and layer with coated strawberries before topping with crumbs.
  6. Bake for 40–50 minutes until golden brown and firm to touch. Cool before slicing.
