  • 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey or chicken)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup pineapple juice (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch, dissolved in 1 tablespoon water
  • Sliced green onions for garnish
  • Sesame seeds for garnish
  • Fresh pineapple chunks for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef with breadcrumbs, milk, egg, onion, garlic, soy sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined but don’t overwork it.
  3. Shape the mixture into golf ball-sized meatballs and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  4. Bake for about 20 minutes or until golden brown.
  5. Meanwhile, prepare the sauce by simmering ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, soy sauce, and optional pineapple juice in a skillet over medium heat.
  6. Thicken the sauce with cornstarch mixed with water.
  7. Add baked meatballs to the sauce and toss gently until coated.
