  • 2 cups sliced carrots
  • 2 cups sliced sweet potatoes
  • 2 cups diced apple
  • 2 lbs ground lean turkey
  • 3 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 3 cups crushed tomatoes
  • 1 to 2 cans kidney beans (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons salt (divided)
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons rubbed sage (divided)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • a sprinkle nutmeg
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  2. Sauté the sliced carrots, sweet potatoes, and diced apples with onion powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper, sage, cinnamon, and nutmeg for about 5 minutes.
  3. Add ground turkey and cook until browned, breaking it into smaller pieces.
  4. Stir in tomato paste and spices until well mixed.
  5. Add crushed tomatoes and bring to a simmer; cook for 20-30 minutes.
  6. If using kidney beans, add them during the last few minutes of cooking.
