  • 4 cinnamon sticks (or 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon)
  • 4 vanilla beans, split and scraped (or 4 teaspoons vanilla extract)
  • 2 star anises (optional)
  • 2 cups milk (dairy or plant-based)
  • 4 teaspoons loose-leaf black tea or 4 black tea bags (optional)
  • Sweetener of choice (honey, sugar, or a sugar substitute)

Instructions

  1. Bring the water to a boil in a small pot.
  2. Add cinnamon sticks and vanilla beans (or extract) to the pot. Turn off the heat, cover, and steep for about 10 minutes.
  3. If using loose-leaf black tea or bags, add now and brew for an additional 3-5 minutes.
  4. In another pot, gently heat the milk until warm but not boiling.
  5. Strain the infused mixture into the warmed milk and stir well.
  6. Sweeten to taste before serving either hot or over ice.
