  • 1 loaf Pasquier Sliced Brioche (17.6 ounces)
  • 4 tablespoons melted butter
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 1/4 cups milk (2% or whole)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon zest
  • 2 cups assorted fresh berries
  • For the Lemon Butter Sauce: 3/4 cup sugar, 6 tablespoons butter, 2 tablespoons water, 1 large beaten egg, and 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cut the brioche into 1-inch cubes and spread them on a baking sheet. Toast in the oven until lightly golden.
  3. In a large bowl, combine toasted bread with melted butter.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, salt, and lemon zest until smooth.
  5. Lightly butter an 8×8 inch or 9×9 inch baking dish.
  6. Layer half of the bread cubes in the dish followed by half of the berries. Repeat with remaining bread and berries.
  7. Pour custard mixture evenly over the layered bread and berries. Press down gently to ensure soaking.
  8. Bake uncovered for about 45-50 minutes until set and lightly golden on top.
  9. Let cool for at least 20 minutes before serving warm with lemon butter sauce.
