Ingredients

  • 8 small apples (Gala or Fuji) or 16 crabapples
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • ½ cup light corn syrup
  • ½ cup water
  • ½ teaspoon red gel food coloring
  • 16 wooden sticks (lollipop or popsicle sticks)
  • Nonstick cooking spray or parchment paper

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. If using larger apples, cut them in half and remove seeds.
  2. Insert a wooden stick into the stem of each apple.
  3. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly grease it.
  4. In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir over medium heat until dissolved.
  5. Increase heat to high, boil without stirring until the mixture reaches 290°F (about 8-10 minutes).
  6. Remove from heat and stir in red food coloring.
  7. Dip each apple into the hot candy coating, swirling to coat evenly, then place on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Allow the candy coating to cool completely before serving.
