Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 lb ground beef
  • 1 ½ cups red apple vinegar
  • 1 shallot (minced)
  • 3 Tablespoons butter
  • 1 Tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 Burger buns
  • 4 slices cheese (any favorite type)
  • 8 large slices tomato
  • Lettuce (for topping)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, boil the red apple vinegar and minced shallots until reduced by half (about 20-30 minutes). Stir in 1 tablespoon of butter and brown sugar until dissolved, then remove from heat and mix in the remaining butter.
  2. Prepare a grill for medium-high heat. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef with Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and 1/4 cup of the vinegar mixture. Form into four patties.
  3. Grill the patties for about 3 minutes on one side; flip and brush with more vinegar mixture. Cook an additional 4 minutes until desired doneness. Add cheese during the last minute of cooking.
  4. Toast the burger buns cut side down on the grill until lightly browned. Assemble by placing patties on bottom buns, topping with tomato slices and lettuce.
